Discussion:
How to tell if you're delisted on google?

Traffic for my main web site, brandylion.com
suddenly fell off a cliff after posting an IMHO
intelligent blurb written by Scott Adams. The
traffic is down to 1/5 normal
which is weird. I don't keep stats on this
but I don't recall it ever dropping this much
by Wednesday. My logs rotate every Sunday morning.

I don't have any readers and never analyze
logs other than monitor their size. I'm wondering
if google delisted me or something.

Then I read this from Politico who I think don't
favor either D or R.

From: http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2015/08/how-google-could-rig-the-2016-election-121548_Page2.html#.V1hvQKOVtaU

"Given Google’s strong ties to Democrats, there is reason to suspect that if Google or its employees intervene to favor their candidates, it will be to adjust the search algorithm to favor Hillary Clinton."

There could be many reasons for the drop off including
it's the end of school year. here's a link to
Scott Adam's blog post about Trump.

http://blog.dilbert.com/post/145309172876/the-risks-of-a-trump-presidency

BTW: I'm not doing this to drum up traffic. :-)
Maybe google or Kerman will delete this post.

I never said I like nor dislike him. I thought that article was
well written and informative. Sometimes even Brent writes something
informative but that doesn't mean I like everything he writes or
think he's brilliant in any way.

so I didn't really know much about him other than I used to read dilbert eons
ago when people used to get newspapers. for grins, I followed the link and
read his blog post. what a bunch of bullshit. he basically excuses trump's
worst lines (all mexicans are racists) as hyperbole and his most offensive
positions (refuse entry to any muslim) as "legal".

You do realize Trump is a salesman. He's reflecting his marks,
the Republican base who are racist to the bone. He's smart enough
to know the President can't refuse entry to Muslims or most of the
garbage he spews. His followers are complete morons. They thought
Sarah Palin, another complete imbecile, was fit to be President.

Trump has always been pragmatic about his business ventures. Trump
tower here is one of the most beautiful buildings in the skyline
now. As President he's a wild card. Clinton is known. She's in the
pockets of the oligarchs and the defense folks who really really need a
war ASAP with someone and Clinton will bring home the bacon.
She's a compulsive liar who lies when the truth would serve her
better. For what purpose did saying she was under sniper fire
serve her when it's guaranteed someone will look that up to write
a story about it. She doesn't care because her followers are
mostly idiots too who would rather hear someone tell a story than
boring reality.

The Constitution that defines
how laws are made prevents any President from doing what those
moron hillbilly Baptist Trump knuckledraggers want done.

I didn't know Adams to be a right wing fanatic but I don't
know much about him other than Dilbert is usually funny.

the problem is that about 80% of the US population ARE morons.
How many of them will get out to vote is the key here.

I have NEVER had such utter hatred and contempt for two presumptive
candidates as I do right now. I've had more than a few "hold your nose
and vote for xxx" elections, but this one will be testing my gag reflex,
for sure.

I've looked into moving to Canada, and they mostly don't want us. (By "us"
I mean a middle-aged woman with not especially unique work skills, who's
closer to retirement than being a valuable worker at this point.)

I've looked into trying to get a dual citizenship with Poland, as I have
the right ancestry for that. I'd go there, but they've gone totally
right-wing nutso this last election and have some real political issues to
deal with right now. Could I take my cats with me, though? I bet I could
live fairly well there.

But yeah, what the hell do we have to look forward to?

oh wow. He really went off the deep end, then.
I seem to remember one of the books he wrote was fine, until you got to
like the last chapter, and then it went completely off the rails with some
kind of crazy ideas or something, which suddenly made the whole book seem
rather tainted, and pegged Adams as a nutbag.

He's nuts. He's literally argued that, if you disagree with him, it's
because you're scientifically stupider than he is.

And he thinks women are unfairly able to limit sex with men.

I liked Dilbert back in the days when I still read newspapers, but he's
a real piece of shit.

I didn't know that. I don't keep track of people. His assessment
of Trump was IMHO something I had been pondering how to write but
his version is better. He's a good writer. I probably wouldn't
have put it up had I known about all this but it's too
late now.

BTW: Traffic on that site is back to normal. Watching these logs
feels like watching waves come in from the ocean. What I saw
Wednesday was the ocean receding like what happens when a
tsunami is coming.

You don't analyze your logs and are wondering about a dropoff?

What the fuck.

Install like awstats like this:

http://pages.ripco.net/logs/

run it from cron once a day or weekly, it'll store all the previous data
and tell you (mostly) how the site is being used. You can go back to previous
months or years, that one on ripco goes back to 2009.

There are like half a million fucking web bots these days, which don't count
for shit. Your old numbers could of been inflated. There could of been some
picture or graphic that was being linked to from another site that isn't
anymore, once again inflating the logs.

It'll show you the counts from search engines, referral links.

Google probably delisted you for being an idiot.

I used to run awstats a long time ago and after awhile never
looked at them because I didn't care. Log size is a good indicator
of traffic and maybe problems. Most all my traffic is background
bots and it
goes up and down. Usually by Wednesday I'm average 4M with
a variance of around 1M. Yesterday it was around 0.5M. The
other sites were normal. It was just weird.

Today it doubled so it might be getting back to normal.
